Executive Summary

Viklicky Kälte-und Klimatechnik, an innovative gas-water heating installation company, aimed to install an air heat pump in a compact 50m² apartment on the 7th floor of a residential building. The challenge was to minimise space consumption while meeting strict noise level requirements. Learn how we achieved a remarkable reduction in noise and preserved space for the residents.

Scope of Work

  • Enclosure of the heat pump and the boiler with highly absorbent acoustic foam and veneered wood panels to create a visual border
  • Installation of the heat pump on custom anti-vibration pads to reduce structure-borne noise
  • Implementation of sound absorbers for effective noise reduction without impeding the heat pump's air intake

Challenge

In this small apartment, the objective was to install an air heat pump and boiler while ensuring noise levels remained below 35 dB(A) both inside and outside the apartment. Space optimisation was crucial to maintain living comfort.

Solution

Our approach involved:

  • Constructing an enclosure around the heat pump and boiler using acoustic foam and veneered wood panels to create a visual border
  • Mounting the heat pump on anti-vibration pads to mitigate structure-borne noise
  • Utilising sound absorbers for effective noise reduction without restricting the air intake

The products we used were:

Result

The noise levels were successfully reduced, achieving levels 3-4 dB(A) below the target (35 dB(A)) in the room and on the balcony. The compact housing design allowed maximum living space for the residents while ensuring the efficient operation of the air heat pump.

This project highlights the effectiveness of combining acoustic materials and expertise to address noise challenges while optimising space utilisation. Our solutions not only meet strict noise level requirements but also enhance living comfort.
