Project Overview

DECIBEL was contacted by Adecco Bulgaria, located in Business Park Mladost 4, to improve the acoustic comfort in three custom-designed phone booths inside their office. The booths were used for phone calls and virtual meetings, but had issues with sound reflection, especially due to the presence of glass doors.

DECIBEL worked in close cooperation with the project architect to create a solution that would improve sound quality while also matching Adecco's corporate interior design.

Improving Phone Booth Acoustics

Phone booths inside office spaces are used for private conversations and require good sound absorption to ensure speech clarity and privacy. In this case, the main challenge was the glass door surfaces, which reflected sound and made the booths less effective for calls.

The objective was to create an acoustic treatment solution that would reduce internal echo, improve sound quality, and visually match the company’s interior design and colour palette.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was designing an effective solution for small enclosed spaces with glass doors, which are highly reflective and reduce sound absorption. The acoustic solution also had to match the colour scheme and overall aesthetic of Adecco’s office.

Scope of Work

  • On-site evaluation of the phone booth design
  • Acoustic study to assess conditions and calculate treatment needs
  • Collaboration with an architect for layout and colour planning
  • Visual previews of textile panel colours and positioning
  • Production and installation of acoustic textile panels

Solution

DECIBEL carried out an acoustic study of the phone booths to understand the sound reflection and absorption characteristics of the space. Based on these results, we proposed the use of textile acoustic panels, which were carefully placed on the internal surfaces of the booths to reduce echo and control sound.

The panel design, colours, and layout were selected in close coordination with the project architect. Final visualisations were created and approved by the client before installation. The panels were produced to match Adecco’s brand colours and were installed with minimal disruption to the office workflow.

Result

The installed acoustic panels successfully reduced noise and improved the internal sound quality of the phone booths. Employees can now use the booths comfortably for phone calls and meetings without echo or voice distortion.

The panels also blended well with the rest of the office, aligning with Adecco's visual identity. The project demonstrates how custom acoustic solutions can meet both technical and design goals when developed in collaboration with architects and workplace planners.
