Acoustic Ceiling Panels for EY Bulgaria Office

Project Overview
At their Sofia headquarters, EY Bulgaria faced a growing issue - echo and poor sound clarity were making it hard for employees to concentrate and communicate, especially during phone calls.
In December 2016, the company reached out to DECIBEL to improve the acoustic comfort of two key office areas. The goal was clear: fix the reverberation problem quickly and without altering the modern interior design.
Why Acoustic Treatment Matters
Open offices with hard surfaces like glass, stone, or MDF, look great but sound not too good. Reverberation builds up, making speech harder to follow and everyday interactions sometimes quite frustrating. In the long run, this leads to distractions, stress, and fatigue.
Acoustic treatment of offices makes the space work better. It improves speech clarity, lowers background noise, and helps people stay focused and productive.
Challenge
The space had already been fully furnished, with no built-in acoustic features. All surfaces were highly reflective, which only amplified the echo. EY also wanted to preserve the interior’s clean look and avoid using wall space.
The fix had to be efficient, discreet, and installed without disrupting the workspace.
Scope of Work
- On-site inspection and acoustic assessment, and consultation
- Design and planning of a ceiling-only treatment
- Production of custom fabric-wrapped acoustic panels
- Color-matched finish selected from DECIBEL’s palette
- Fast and non-intrusive installation using available ceiling area
Solution
DECIBEL proposed a ceiling-mounted acoustic panel solution to bring reverberation down to comfortable levels. Panels were wrapped in sound-absorbing fabric, color-matched to the office interior so they’d blend in without calling attention to themselves.
This approach used vertical space efficiently, avoiding any visual or structural changes to the existing layout.
Result
Once installed, the difference was immediate. The echo disappeared, and phone calls became easier to manage. Employees noticed the change, and EY confirmed that the original issue had been fully resolved.
The workspace felt quieter, more comfortable, and finally matched the quality of the design it was built on.
