Soundproofing ventilation noise in a nightlife venue

Project Overview
In the dynamic nightlife scene of Sofia, one popular bar faced a common challenge: excessive noise from the ventilation system. The sound was disrupting the atmosphere and affecting the comfort of the guests. To solve this issue, the bar’s management contacted DECIBEL to develop a solution that would reduce the noise without interrupting airflow or daily operations.
The goal was to improve building acoustics and soundproofing, in order to deliver a quieter, more enjoyable space for visitors.
Reducing Ventilation Noise
Noise from ventilation systems can be particularly disturbing in hospitality spaces, where a calm and welcoming environment is important. In this case, the sound of the system was strong enough to affect conversations and the overall experience inside the bar.
DECIBEL was tasked with designing a custom noise control solution that would lower the sound levels while keeping the airflow fully functional.
Challenge
The main challenge was to control the ventilation noise without affecting the system’s efficiency. The bar was fully operational, so the work had to be completed quickly and without disrupting staff or guests. The acoustic solution also needed to fit within the existing structure of the ventilation system and deliver immediate improvement in sound comfort.
Scope of Work
- On-site inspection and noise assessment of the ventilation system
- Custom design of a silencer for integration into the ductwork
- Production of a soundproofing solution that allows uninterrupted airflow
- On-site installation coordinated with the bar staff to avoid disruption
Solution
DECIBEL designed and produced a custom acoustic silencer, built specifically to reduce the noise created by the bar’s ventilation system. The silencer was made using sound-absorbing materials and was engineered to block noise while allowing air to move freely.
The installation was done on-site by DECIBEL technicians in Sofia, and the team worked around the bar’s schedule to avoid disruption to business. The silencer was placed inside the ventilation system at the most effective position to reduce sound transmission.
Result
After the installation, the noise from the ventilation system was significantly reduced. The atmosphere inside the bar became more comfortable, allowing guests to enjoy the space without unwanted background noise.
The solution met all expectations, providing a balance between noise control, airflow, and functional design. The bar team was satisfied with the results, and the improved building acoustics added to the overall guest experience.
