Reducing noise at Hilton Hotel Tirana

Project Overview

During the design of the Hilton Hotel in Tirana, a conference room was planned on the ground floor. This space was intended for various events such as presentations, workshops, screenings, weddings, and formal gatherings.

After construction, the hotel management observed that noise from the event space could be heard in the guest rooms located directly above. To resolve this issue, DECIBEL was invited to develop and deliver a reliable sound insulation system that would preserve guest comfort without requiring major structural changes.

Reducing Noise Transfer Between Floors with Sound Insulation

When event halls are located below hotel rooms, airborne noise like music, voices, or amplified sound can easily travel through the structure if the ceiling does not provide enough sound insulation. This can lead to complaints and reduced satisfaction among hotel guests.

DECIBEL’s goal in this project was to limit vertical sound transmission from the conference room to the upper floors. A well-designed sound insulation solution was needed to block disruptive noise and maintain the quiet environment expected in a luxury hotel.

Challenge

The existing ceiling between the conference room and the guest rooms was not sufficient to block the sound from events. As a result, loud music and speech could be heard in the rooms above.

Since the hotel was already in operation, the sound insulation system had to be installed in a non-invasive way, without disrupting the building’s function or aesthetics.

Scope of Work

• On-site acoustic assessment of the ceiling and structure
• Selection of materials for efficient sound insulation
• Supply and delivery of:
  • VISTO 48 elastic sound-insulating panels for walls and ceilings
• Coordination with the hotel team during installation

Solution

DECIBEL proposed and supplied VISTO 48, a high-tech, elastic panel designed for advanced sound insulation. These panels are built from layered materials that block and absorb noise across a wide frequency range.

VISTO 48 panels were chosen for their high performance, fast installation, and compatibility with both horizontal and vertical surfaces. The system was integrated into the ceiling area between the conference room and the guest rooms above, providing a clear barrier against noise transmission.

Result

After the installation of the sound insulation system, the Hilton Hotel team reported noticeable improvement. Noise from events in the conference room was no longer heard in the guest rooms above. The goal of preserving guest comfort was achieved, and the feedback from hotel staff was very positive.
