Noise Insulation of Chillers at Marriott Hotel

Project Overview
DECIBEL partnered with Marriott for the acoustic treatment of their new five-star hotel in Shekvetili, Georgia, a high-profile development located in a scenic coastal resort.
The goal was to provide effective noise insulation for the hotel’s group of chillers and bring sound levels below 60 dB, ensuring guest comfort and regulatory compliance.
Challenge
The air conditioning chillers generated constant mechanical noise, which posed a risk to the tranquil environment expected at a premium hotel.
The challenge was to deliver a solution that not only met the target sound level but also adhered to the architectural standards of the new complex, with minimal visual disruption.
Scope of Work
- Acoustic consultation and on-site evaluation
- Acoustic modeling and proposal of a 3D-engineered solution
- Design and production of a custom sound barrier system
- Installation of perforated metal PZP panels in varying sizes
- Integration of a soundproof door for chiller access
- On-site supervision and noise level testing upon completion
Products Used
- Sound-absorbing barriers
- Perforated PZP panels (single- and double-sided)
- Soundproof door
Solution
DECIBEL engineers proposed a structure that enclosed the chillers with sound-absorbing metal barriers, using perforated PZP panels designed for maximum efficiency.
The use of perforated surfaces with varied hole diameters helped target a broad frequency range. A dedicated access door was integrated into the barrier for practical maintenance, without compromising sound insulation.
Result
The installation was completed in less than three days, which was four days ahead of schedule. Final noise measurements recorded 56 dB, exceeding the client’s expectations and fully addressing the acoustic challenge. This successful outcome further strengthened DECIBEL’s ongoing collaboration with Marriott.
Hotels operating at a luxury standard must ensure that mechanical systems like chillers and HVAC units remain acoustically invisible to guests. This project illustrates how thoughtful acoustic engineering not only meets regulatory sound limits but also enhances the overall guest experience. In hospitality, silence is service.
