Ceiling Sound Insulation in a Residential Apartment

Project Overview
In a recent residential soundproofing project, DECIBEL was contacted to solve a noise issue from the above apartment. The client, living in a multi-storey building, was disturbed by loud sounds such as TV noise, late-night music, and raised voices from the top floor. These noises caused daily stress and discomfort, making the home feel anything but peaceful.
To address the problem, DECIBEL installed a ceiling sound insulation system using C-MUTE SYSTEM™ 33 panels combined with the DCvisco™ soundproofing membrane for improved noise reduction.
Blocking Noise from Above with Ceiling Soundproofing
In residential buildings, one of the most common complaints is noise from upstairs neighbours. Impact noise and airborne noise, such as footsteps, loud conversations, or sound from TV and music, can pass through ceilings and disturb the rooms below.
To restore comfort, reduce stress, and improve sleep quality, it is essential to apply proper ceiling sound insulation. This project focused on delivering an effective and clean installation that solved the problem without disrupting daily life in the apartment.
Challenge
The noise from the upper floor included several types of disturbances: TV sounds, shouting, and loud music. The client needed a high-performance solution that would reduce both airborne and structural sound. The main goal was to insulate the ceiling of the apartment and create a quiet, private space.
The ceiling area was 60 m², and the work had to be done quickly and with minimal disruption to the living space.
Scope of Work
- Acoustic assessment of the ceiling
- Installation of C-MUTE SYSTEM™ 33 sound insulation panels
- Addition of DCvisco™ membrane to increase mass and performance
- Finishing with plasterboard for a clean and seamless appearance
- 4-day installation with no heavy construction impact
Solution
DECIBEL installed the C-MUTE SYSTEM™ 33, a sound insulation panel system designed to reduce both airborne and impact noise. To boost performance, the team added a layer of DCvisco™, a dense soundproof membrane that increases the overall insulation capacity of the system.
The panels were installed across the entire 60 m² ceiling surface. The process was completed in four days, including the application of a plasterboard finishing layer. The clean and dry installation allowed the client to use the room immediately after the work was finished.
Result
After the installation, the client experienced a noticeable reduction in noise from the apartment above. Sounds that previously disrupted daily life were no longer present. The room became quiet, calm, and great for relaxation.
The client now enjoys improved comfort without any compromise to the interior design. The success of this project shows that high-performance ceiling soundproofing can be delivered quickly, cleanly, and effectively.
