Project Overview

DECIBEL was selected as a trusted acoustic panel manufacturer for the newly constructed LIDL office building in Zagreb, Croatia. The project aimed to improve speech clarity and acoustic comfort across meeting rooms and hallways, following strict reverberation time standards. Our partners in Zagreb, responsible for the architectural and acoustic planning, reached out to DECIBEL to create a custom acoustic solution personalised to the modern interior aesthetic of the building.

To meet both performance and design requirements, they chose the BEELIVE designer acoustic panel, developed in-house by DECIBEL’s R&D team.

Why Acoustic Treatment Matters

In office environments, poor acoustics lead to increased stress, reduced concentration, and ineffective communication, especially in meeting rooms, boardrooms, and open-plan corridors. Proper acoustic treatment of offices minimises reverberation time.

For buildings like LIDL’s corporate office, where sound control directly supports daily operations and team productivity, engineered sound absorption is a performance necessity.

Challenge

The project required an acoustic solution that met strict reverberation targets, as calculated by the project's acoustic consultants. These specifications were based on the dimensions and use of each space within the building. The treatment needed to be not only technically effective but also visually integrated into the architectural style of the office. The final product had to maintain design coherence across meeting rooms and hallways while ensuring targeted acoustic absorption in the human speech frequency range.

Scope of Work

  • Acoustic performance planning by Zagreb-based consultants
  • Supply and fabrication of BEELIVE designer panels
  • Custom color matching and design coordination for interior integration
  • Coordination between architectural and acoustic requirements
  • Post-installation feedback and results validation

Solution

DECIBEL manufactured the BEELIVE acoustic panels, chosen specifically for their balance of acoustic absorption and visual elegance. The panels feature a high-performance open-cell polyurethane foam core, engineered for sound absorption between 400–650 Hz, this is the frequency range most associated with human speech.

Each panel was customized in color and configuration to align with the building’s modern architectural theme, contributing to a clean, unified interior look. The BEELIVE design supports modular mounting, making it ideal for dynamic office layouts and precise acoustic tuning.

Result

Following installation, the acoustic team reported that the target reverberation times were fully achieved. The panels improve acoustic comfort, they also elevated the visual charm of the environment.

This project highlights the importance of integrated acoustic design, where sound and architecture work together to enhance both performance and experience.
