Acoustic Treatment of Zvukozapis Studio in Sofia

Project Overview
Zvukozapis Studio partnered with DECIBEL to complete the final, and often most critical, step in building a professional sound recording space that is the custom acoustic treatment. The studio was already equipped with modern recording technology, so a targeted acoustic solution was needed to achieve precise sound reproduction and accurate monitoring.
Why Acoustic Treatment Matters
Untreated surfaces in recording environments produce sound reflections, standing waves, and low-frequency buildup, all of which can reduce audio quality and clarity. Proper soundproofing and acoustic design allows musicians to hear and record sound precisely as intended, with minimal distortion, echo, or interference.
Challenge
The objective was to provide an even acoustic treatment throughout the room while minimizing bass buildup in corners and avoiding over-damping. Furthermore, the customer requested a room that appeared sharp, clean, and comfortable for long work periods of time while mixing performance with a pleasant, professional style.
Scope of Work
- Acoustic measurement and room analysis
- Custom acoustic design tailored to room geometry
- Integration of Square Raster Absorbers with flock coating for mid-high frequency control
- Corner installation of Arc Bass Traps for low-frequency pressure reduction
Solution
DECIBEL began with detailed on-site acoustic measurements, allowing for a fully custom design for the client. In order to treat the full frequency spectrum effectively, a combination of narrowband and broadband acoustic panels was strategically placed across the room.
To control mid-to-high frequencies, DECIBEL applied Square Raster Absorbers with a matching flock finish. Their pattern geometry supports efficient diffusion and absorption, while adding a refined, textured look to the studio’s walls.
Furthermore, Arc Bass Traps were placed in the corners to target low-frequency build-up, where sound pressure tends to concentrate. These traps effectively balance the room’s bass response that is crucial for music production and mixing accuracy.
The color palette chosen was a blend of cool gray and bold blue, paired with the minimalist shape of the panels, adding style and calmness to the studio. These colors further helped create a space for focused and creative work sessions.
Result
Zvukozapis Studio now performs with precision and every frequency band is accounted for, every reflection controlled, and every detail of the soundscape saved. DECIBEL's tailored combination of decorative acoustic panels, bass traps, and professional design turned this space into a true recording-grade environment.
