Industrial halls rarely sound “bad” by accident. They sound exactly like the materials they are built from. High ceilings, open volume, hard surfaces, uninterrupted walls. Add active machinery and moving equipment, and you get a space where sound does not settle. It multiplies.

Excellpack needed an acoustic solution for two industrial halls with the same typical profile: tall ceilings, reflective surfaces, and continuous work processes. The goal was not to change how the hall functions, but to change how it sounds, so daily work becomes clearer, calmer, and safer.

Scope of Work

  • Acoustic consultation for two high-ceiling industrial spaces
  • Assessment of reverberation behaviour and noise accumulation
  • Acoustic design for large open volume environments
  • Supply and installation of suspended acoustic panels
  • Wall-hung acoustic panels positioned for maximum efficiency
  • Installation planning to avoid interference with existing utilities

Challenge

The spaces were defined by conditions that amplify reverberation:

  • Very high ceilings
  • Large open volume with no acoustic partitions
  • Active machinery, warehouse equipment, and continuous workflows
  • Hard, reflective surfaces are typical for industrial construction
  • Thermal panels are increasing echo and “ringing” in the space

In this kind of environment, sound doesn’t simply reflect. It stays in circulation. Speech intelligibility drops. Warning signals become harder to localise. Noise fatigue builds up over the working day.

The objective was clear and practical: reduce reverberation and improve acoustic comfort without compromising the hall’s functionality or interrupting operations.

Solution

DECIBEL designed and installed a suspended acoustic treatment system, positioned below the ceiling and supplemented with vertically hung elements along the walls.

This approach was chosen because industrial halls with high ceilings require absorption that works where sound energy accumulates most. Treating only the lower wall area is rarely enough. Suspended panels increase acoustic impact while keeping the floor plan untouched.

The acoustic system was engineered to deliver:

  • Broad-area reverberation control in open volume spaces
  • Effective performance under high ceilings
  • Minimal intervention around existing infrastructure
  • An installation layout suitable for heavy-duty, everyday use

Products and Installation

DECIBEL implemented an acoustic panel system configured specifically for industrial conditions and high ceilings.

Key functional characteristics:

  • Double-sided sound absorption, increasing effective performance per panel
  • Suspended installation below the ceiling for improved coverage
  • Additional wall-hung panels positioned to support overall decay reduction
  • Installation layout designed around existing lighting, ventilation, and cable routes

Panels were placed so they:

  • Do not obstruct lighting distribution
  • Do not interfere with ventilation or air movement
  • Do not block cable trays or service access
  • Remain secure and stable for intensive industrial exploitation

The result is an acoustic treatment that works continuously in the background, without changing how the facility operates.

Result

The hall’s acoustic environment was noticeably improved across the work zones:

  • Reverberation levels were reduced
  • Speech intelligibility in active working areas improved
  • Acoustic comfort increased, supporting a calmer and more controlled sound field
  • The working environment became safer and less fatiguing for personnel

Industrial acoustics is not a design trend. It is an operational factor. In open production spaces, reverberation affects communication, attention, and the ability to react quickly in a noisy environment. The right treatment does not “silence” a hall; it makes sound behave predictably.

For Excellpack, the solution delivered measurable improvement while respecting industrial reality: high ceilings, constant activity, and zero tolerance for downtime.

If you operate an industrial facility where echo, noise buildup, or poor speech clarity is affecting daily work, DECIBEL can design an acoustic treatment system that fits your space and your process.
